The Bitverse experience in The Sandbox to launch later this year
San Diego, CA (March 16, 2023) - Kongregate, creators of the massively popular web gaming platform Kongregate.com and a pioneering blockchain game developer, today announced that it is expanding its fan-favorite Bitverse universe with a new, exclusive gaming experience coming soon to The Sandbox, a leading decentralized gaming virtual world and a subsidiary of Animoca Brands. Players will be able to access Kongregate’s own hub within The Sandbox’s new gaming-driven neighborhood, Voxel Madness, alongside 11 popular gaming brands and studios including Cut the Rope, Dungeon Siege, and Habbo. This new experience will extend Kongregate’s Bitverse universe into the larger web3 “metaverse” for The Sandbox’s broad gaming audience to access and enjoy.
“I’m excited to announce our continued steps into the open metaverse,” said Markus Lipp, CEO of Kongregate. “It’s my dream that all our products will be chain agnostic and allow players to truly take their gaming experience anywhere - from within and across our games, to exciting new experiences like The Sandbox. The days of single game experiences are over, the future will be one where players can enjoy true ownership no matter where they play.”
"We’re pleased to partner with Kongregate, a long-established video game company with millions of players and hundreds of games published, in their journey to explore the metaverse and web3,” said Sebastien Borget, COO and Co-Founder of The Sandbox. “Together, we’re expanding the Bitverse into social and creative experiences in interoperable worlds where the community will own their assets and contribute to growing this universe.”
Bitverse Heroes, pixelated non-fungible token (NFT) avatars that connect all of the games in the Bitverse series (a feat in the web3 space), will have deeper utility in The Sandbox. Kongregate's extended Bitverse experience will turn the 8-bit avatars into voxelized characters that live within The Sandbox metaverse.
More About The Bitverse:
The Bitverse is a collection of cross-platform free-to-play games that are connected by a central theme, a nostalgic pixelated rpg world. Players can purchase Bitverse Hero NFT avatars and play as their “hero” across all the games in the collection. There are three games currently live within the Bitverse, including:
- Bit Heroes Quest - a dungeon crawling rpg
- Bit Heroes Runner - a side-scrolling running game
- Bit Heroes Arena - an action-packed battle royale
