PROMOTION | How do I get my game featured on Kongregate home page?

We want to help developers grow their game and build an audience. As such, being featured on the Kongregate home page can expose your game to more players!  But of course, everyone wants their game featured and so we need to have some criteria for this. 

Know that you're likely to see the Kongregate landing page update many times in the coming months as we improve how games get surfaced, to help more games get the attention they deserve. 

Recommendation engine

• We're always refining our recommendation engine, so that players will have the games they are most likely to play shown to them first
• As such, it's likely that players who are logged into Kongregate will each see variations on the games that are displayed on the Kongregate landing page
• For players that are not logged in, we try to show the games that are most popular overall first

Highlights

• You will see that games sometimes have highlight text added, to help players know what is new, popular or updated
• The formula for this frequently changes as we refine and fine-tune, but in general this is how it works:
  • Hot is a game that we are highlighting because it is very popular with our players (based on number of plays and review scores)
  • Top if the game meets a minimum # of ratings (15) and minimum average player rating (3.3)
  • New if the game was first published in the past 30 days

  • Updated if the game was updated within the last 14 days

    As we noted above - these numbers are tweaked frequently based on what is happening on the site overall, but they should help you understand the criteria

Tags

• The site also displays games by popular categories, and these are determined by the tags that you, as a developer, assign to your game
• When you submit your game, you typically choose a category from a limited subset
• Once your game is published, you should add more tags: the more tags, the more places your game will appear. But don't tag your game for categories that aren't appropriate - it will lead to lower ratings from players for your game, and that will reduce your game's surfacing on the site
